Yomawari: Lost in the Dark, or Yomawari 3 as it’s known in Japan is the latest entry in the night road exploration horror action series by Nippon Ichi Software. Nis America, the game’s western publisher announced its United States and European release dates. The game has been available in Japan since April. Along with the announcement, a new teaser trailer was released.

The Yomawari series, consisting of Yomawari: Night Alone, Yomawari: Midnight Shadows, and now Yomawari: Lost in the Dark, all revolve around the same premise. Young girls wander in the night town alone in search of important things that have disappeared in the darkness of the night. Yomawari 夜廻 or Yoru Mawari (Night + Wander in Japanese) literally means the night of wandering. The heroine’s goal this time is to find ‘memories’ that can be used as clues to break the curse that has befallen her.

The first two games in the series are now available in a single collection on Nintendo Switch, called Yomawari: The Long Night Collection. Both games are also available separately on PC.

The heroine wakes up with no memories or no knowledge of where she is. She just hears the sound of a person who speaks in a nostalgic voice, saying: “You have a strong curse, and in order to break this curse, you have to remember the important things you forgot. Over the night, the heroine will rely on her flashlight and heartbeats to escape the ghosts lurking around and find what she needs. The light can be used in a variety of ways to distract and evade the ghosts and any other obstacles in your way.

Yomawari: Lost in the Dark has a free exploration element. There are ghosts associated with each place such as the school, the rural town, the doll house in the bamboo grove, etc., Each place has its own unique identity based on Japanese folklore, a ghost lurking behind the scenes, and hidden memories to be found. You can visit any place you want at any time, and you can also change the appearance of your character however your want, another new and welcome addition to the series.

Yomawari: Lost in the Dark will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC.
